Tenuous

This series of botanical examinations was photographed with a discarded dental camera and local flowers. The dental camera allowed me to get very close to my subject, often pressing petals on my lens. Rather than search for perfection, I became more interested with the diseased and imperfect blooms. I often allowed them to wilt before photographing them. The magnified viewpoint and consistent lighting shows the flaws that interested me. I believe the suggestive structure of a bloom cannot be ignored. Similar to Imogen Cunningham’s botanical photographs, these images often resemble human forms. Palladium prints of these images were made and complied in an artist book of the same title. It is a hand-bound book with soft covers and a long stitched binding.
