Sky Studies

While lying in my backyard I noticed a hole-punched cloud in the middle of a sky full of billowy cumulus clouds. I ran inside for my camera and that is where my obsession with clouds started. A storm was rolling in and I photographed the sky until the rain started. Clouds never sit still for a portrait so you have to act quickly, hesitate and what you saw is gone. Since Gustave Le Gray the sky has been a challenge for photographers, we want to enhance it. My images are manipulated to increase volume, texture and add color in the clouds. I removed most references to the land in these sky studies and employed the square format to eliminate any particular orientation. They can be viewed lying down and looking up.
