by the skin of my teeth

by a very small margin, barely; succeed by a minimal measure used when expressing how difficult something was to achieve This piece includes 32 heavily layered screen prints with small archival photographs. They hang in two rows to represent the number of human permanent teeth. They represent a misunderstanding and confusion I had as a child; strangely I associated troubles with reading and a trip to the dentist. It had a little something to do with wisdom teeth and knowledge but now as an adult I can barely remember my childhood conceptions of the world. When my grandmother died my mom cleaned out her house. She found her false teeth and gave them to me. I asked why she was giving them to me, she said if there was anyone who could figure out something to do with them it would be me. I used them in a glass of water in this piece to disjoint the image of my face.
